Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo is a major Catholic pilgrimage and heritage site dedicated to the Uganda Martyrs. The present circular basilica was officially opened in 1975 and declared a Minor Basilica in 1993. The 26-hectare grounds include the basilica, Martyrs’ Lake, an amphitheatre, pavilions and pilgrimage facilities.
