Sacred Forest of Kpassè
Listing Description
The Sacred Forest of Kpassè (Forêt Sacrée de Kpassè) is a living Vodun sanctuary and open-air cultural site in Ouidah. According to local tradition, King Kpassè, associated with the founding of Ouidah, disappeared into the forest and transformed into a sacred iroko tree. The forest contains Vodun sculptures, ancient trees and spaces reserved for religious initiates.
